Fairmont Palliser
Originally a Canadian Pacific Railway hotel, I think the Fairmont Palliser is Calgary’s oldest, most historic and fanciest hotel. You can probably find old postcards of Calgary where the Palliser Hotel was the tallest building around. Now it’s surrounded by the Calgary Tower, and The Edison. Completed in 1914, the Palliser Hotel is an icon of Canada’s history with the railroad and the grand railway hotels. Today, managed by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts (who was purchased by Canadian Pacific Hotels), it is still Calgary’s finest hotel in my books. I’m biased towards the Fairmont group of hotels in general, because of our love of the Banff Springs Hotel and Chateau Lake Louise. For years now, since we don’t really have things that we want, my wife and I had standardized our gifts to each other for special occasions as Fairmont gift cards and stay whenever possible. Never expire and good in any currency.

Le Germain Hotel
Le Germain Hotel Calgary is located right across from the Calgary Tower and features Charcut restaurant. Which we love, because of Chef Connie DeSousa of Top Chef Canada fame. Le Germain is a modern hotel literally at the heart of downtown Calgary. If the Palliser is old classic luxury, Le Germain is the new modern luxury. You’ll be very close to Stephen Avenue, Arts Commons and Calgary’s fancy new Central Public Library.

Sheraton Eau Claire
Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire is an all suites 4 star 4 diamond hotel located near the Eau Claire Market not far from Prince’s Island Park. It is near the Bow River and walking distance of some great restaurants and CORE Shopping Centre. Sheraton Eau Claire has seemed fancy to me for as long as I can remember growing up.
